Common Uses of Mupirocin Ointment:

  1. Impetigo: A highly contagious skin infection, especially common in children, characterized by red sores that can rupture and form a yellow-brown crust.

  2. Infected Wounds: Applied to minor cuts, abrasions, or surgical wounds that have become infected to prevent the spread of bacteria.

  3. Folliculitis and Furunculosis (Boils): Treats infections of hair follicles and deeper skin infections like boils.

  4. Nasal Carriage of MRSA: The nasal formulation is used to eliminate methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) from the nasal passages, reducing the risk of infection spread.

  5. Infected Dermatoses: Used on skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis when they become secondarily infected.
